Little Dragon - Ritual Union

It’s been a long, long, time since I posted anything due to hardware failure on my laptop’s part. The voice of Yukimi Nagano is something to behold as is the eclectic sound of Little Dragon. I’ve fallen for these guys and hard. The track is embedded below using the fantastic service mFlow. It kicks Spotify’s arse up and down the street as far as I’m concerned. Nuff said.

Woodkid - Iron

This track is truly epic! I missed this track making the rounds whilst I was on holiday, but it was used beautifully by the guys working on Assassin’s Creed: Revelations in their E3 trailer. I implore you check out the full EP. Check it out at mflow. Baltimore’s Fireflies is truly a stunning song. His use of brass instruments and simple guitar riffs mixed with pulse raising drum beats is a breath of fresh air.

Incidentally mflow has become my music streaming service of choice. (More on that later).

First Listen: Bon Iver, ‘Bon Iver’

Bon Iver is a grand, chance-taking record: It sheds the raw nerviness of 2008’s perfect For Emma, Forever Ago and replaces it with arrangements so lush and vivid, it can be hard to make out much of what Vernon sings. Out June 21, the whole record dares to be dreamy, and to let Bon Iver’s ever-growing backing band paint pictures while Vernon’s words dissipate into the ether. Most of these 10 songs induce gasps at one point or another, for any number of reasons: from the forceful jolt of an orchestral boomlet, the delicate shhhhhinnnnng of finger cymbals, or an impeccable bit of vocal phrasing by Vernon, who can still make seemingly slight inflections hit like punches.

It’s been a busy couple weeks / months for me due to examinations. Oh yeah, Economics degree yeah.

This track most definitley warranted a post. This track oozes sex, from its very soul. Many a child is going to be conceived to this song. Turn up your speakers for this, it’s a bumpy baseline ride. Another perfect baby making track is Wicked Games. I’m pretty sure the majority of the mixtape is about sex and so is perfect for the summer months for many a reason, but mainly this. You can download their awesome mixtape here, it comes highly recommended.
